Interior Demolition
We gut kitchens, bathrooms, walls and floors inside homes that are staying up. Everything you keep gets covered first, and the debris leaves on our own trucks instead of sitting in a bin out front.

Kitchen and bathroom demolition in Los Angeles is the tear-out that comes before a remodel. We handle kitchen demolition and bathroom demolition across the Westside and the South Bay. In a kitchen, the cabinets and countertops come out, heavy stone slabs included, along with the sink, tile and flooring. In a bathroom, the vanity, the toilet, the tub or shower and the tile come out. When the plan calls for it, the room goes down to the studs. What you keep gets moved or covered first. The debris is carried out by hand and leaves in our own trucks the same day.
Southwest Hauling is a licensed demolition and hauling contractor in Los Angeles, founded in 1994. We run multiple crews with our own trucks and equipment, so the demolition and the haul-off are one job. For twenty years we held City of Los Angeles contracts clearing foreclosed, vacant and abandoned properties. Estimates are free and in person. Licensed and insured, CA License 792182. A whole floor or a whole-house gut falls under interior demolition. When the structure itself is coming down, that job is house demolition.
Tell us about your project and we will get right back to you.
A kitchen demolition clears out the old kitchen so the remodel can start. The sink comes out once its water and drain lines are capped. Countertops come off, including heavy stone slabs, and then the upper and lower cabinets. An island comes out the same way when the plan includes it. The backsplash tile comes off the wall behind the counters.
The flooring comes up next, whether it is tile, vinyl, wood or laminate. Soffits, the boxed sections above the upper cabinets, come down too. When the plan calls for it, the drywall comes off and the room goes down to the studs. We stop at the line your contractor or designer marks. Walls and finishes past that line stay as they are.
A bathroom demolition takes out the vanity and the toilet first. Then the tub or shower comes out, along with the tile around it. Floor tile comes up, and the rest of the wall tile comes off. When the plan calls for it, the walls go down to the framing. If only the shower is changing, the work stops at the marked line and the rest of the room stays.
Some bathrooms take more work than others. Tile set in a thick mortar bed is heavy work, since the tile and the mortar break out together. Small jackhammers handle that, and the broken pieces go out by hand. An old tub is heavy work too, and both take more labor than drywall does. The estimator looks for them on the free visit.
Water, gas and electrical lines must be shut off, disconnected and capped before our crew starts. The right licensed trade does that work, never our crew. Appliances and fixtures you keep get moved out or covered first. Clear out the cabinets and the space under the sink before the start date. If a line still looks live once a wall is open, the crew stops work there.
South Coast AQMD Rule 1403 covers asbestos in demolition and renovation work. The part of a building where that work will happen must be surveyed for asbestos before it starts. The person doing the survey must be certified by Cal/OSHA. The survey rule does not cover renovation of a single-unit home removing less than 100 square feet of asbestos-containing material.
The rule also does not apply to an owner-occupant of a single-unit home who does the renovation personally. That exemption does not cover a hired contractor. When the rule requires notification, it is due to the AQMD no later than 10 working days before non-emergency work. If asbestos has to come out, a certified abatement contractor removes it, never our crew. We schedule our part around that work.
Plastic dust walls go up around the work area before demolition starts. Vents in the room get taped off, and floors that stay get covered. The carry-out path gets covered too, from the room through the hallways and down any stairs to the truck. Debris goes out by hand, room by room, along that covered path. The path gets cleaned at the end of each day.
Most of our work today is in high-end homes on the Westside and in the South Bay. Discretion is routine on those jobs. Crews park where they are told and keep the noise down, and NDA jobs are normal for us. Living in the house during the remodel? Tell the estimator which rooms and doors you need to keep using.
Our truck yard sits in the South Bay, just north of San Pedro. From there we cover Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and San Pedro, plus Long Beach. On the Westside we work in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood, Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades. Our crews are working in the Pacific Palisades fire area now, on fire-damaged homes and lots. Every city we cover is on our service areas page.
Everything we take out leaves in our own trucks the same day, so you never have to rent a dumpster. Metal, like an old steel sink or a cast iron tub, goes to metal recycling. What is left goes to a licensed transfer station. Clearing out more than the room? Old furniture and boxes from the rest of the house fall under junk removal.
Remodel debris counts as construction and demolition waste. In the City of Los Angeles, Ordinance 181519 says that waste must go to a City certified processing facility. The free bulky item pickup in the City of Los Angeles does not take construction material. So remodel debris cannot go out that way, but an old fridge can. Book that pickup at least one business day before your normal collection day.
Leftover paint, cleaners and solvents under the sink stay off our truck. City of Los Angeles residents can drop off paint and other household hazardous waste at the City's S.A.F.E. Collection Centers. In California, it is illegal to dispose of hazardous waste in the garbage. Bel Air, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades and San Pedro are part of the City of Los Angeles. Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and Long Beach are separate cities, so ask your city.

Twenty years of City of Los Angeles contracts clearing foreclosed and vacant properties. That work runs on deadlines and documentation, and the habit stuck. Sites get finished, not abandoned.
Much of our work sits behind gates on the Westside, and NDAs are routine. Crews park where you say, keep the site tidy and do not talk about whose property they are on.
